World Mental Health Day
Today, on World Mental Health Day, we recognise the importance of mental health for everyone – especially our autistic community, who often face unique challenges that can affect their mental health and emotional wellbeing. From navigating sensory overload to dealing with masking and autistic burnout, autistic people are more likely to experience anxiety and depression. Looking after your mental health is just as important as your physical well-being. Here are some strategies that can support your mental health:
– Practising Self-Kindness: You’re not “too much” and you’re not broken. Give yourself the same compassion you’d give a friend.
– Connecting with People Who “Get It”: Talking to other autistic people can help you feel understood and less alone.
– Advocate for Your Needs: Your feelings are valid, and you deserve to be supported and accommodated.
